The National Coordinator for the Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO), Albert Arhin, has raised concerns about the Electoral Commission’s (EC) handling of ballot paper shortfalls in the Volta Region, warning that it could tarnish the Commission’s image.
His comments follow the EC’s announcement of shortfalls in the presidential and parliamentary ballot papers for the Keta, Ketu North, Ho Central, Hohoe, and Ho West constituencies—areas considered strongholds of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Initially, the commission withdrew the ballot papers for the Volta and Ahafo regions due to concerns over errors in their serialisation.
Speaking on The Big Issues on Saturday, November 30, 2024, Arhin cautioned the EC to handle the matter with sensitivity, given the region’s political significance.
“The fact that the ‘world bank’ of the NDC is being affected is not good enough for the image of the EC. It could be a genuine error, but honestly, people might interpret it to be something else.
“So, my advice is that they should be very careful dealing with the World Bank of the opposition party so that everything goes on smoothly for them. Otherwise, it will be misinterpreted to mean something else,” he stated.
