Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has expressed doubts about the Electoral Commission’s (EC) preparedness for the upcoming December 7 general elections, citing significant logistical and administrative issues.
Speaking to the press after an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting on Friday, November 29, 2024, Dr. Omane Boamah criticised the EC for what he described as inadequate preparations, raising fears that the perceived lapses could compromise the credibility of the electoral process.
According to Dr. Boamah, unresolved issues such as ballot paper shortfalls and logistical inefficiencies are symptomatic of a broader lack of readiness.
He emphasised the NDC’s commitment to ensuring a transparent and credible election, urging the EC to address these challenges urgently to safeguard public confidence in the electoral process.
“We have 7 days and a few hours to the December 7 elections. We also have a few days for the special voting. It is very obvious that the Electoral Commission is not prepared for this election and we hope and pray that over the next few days, they will put their house in order,” he stated.
Dr. Omane Boamah raised concerns over delays in the preparation and training of election officers, which he described as a critical component of the electoral process.
“The officers who are assisting the EC to perform the task, as you heard them, the list is not even ready all because they misinterpreted releasing of the list not less than 10 days to the election as.
“We have seven days to the elections and they are now training the officers who are going to lead us in these elections. That in itself is very bad,” he stated.
