The Minister for Roads and Highways, Francis Asenso-Boakye, has emphasised that the newly inaugurated Phase II of the Obetsebi Lamptey Interchange will significantly reduce traffic congestion and improve road safety.
At the inauguration of the project, the Minister highlighted that the completion of the interchange would help ease traffic flow, thus reducing the frequency of accidents on the busy road.
He also noted the potential health benefits, including a reduction in the contraction of respiratory diseases, which are often exacerbated by traffic pollution.
Asenso-Boakye commended the project’s role in enhancing the overall transportation infrastructure in Accra and its contribution to improving the city’s urban mobility.
“The benefits of the Obetsebi Lamptey Interchange Phase II extend far beyond improved traffic. The project delivers significant advantages to the public and a more efficient transportation experience for all road users.
“This includes reducing road accidents and delays, improving air quality through reduced vehicle emissions contributing to a healthier environment for residents, enhancing urban aesthetics and fostering business opportunities,” he stated.
The roads minister added also that reinstating of the Obetsebi Lamptey statue is the state’s effort to pay tribute to the member of the renowned Big Six.
“In addition, the statue of Emmanuel Odarkwei Obetsebi-Lamptey has been reinstated at the roundabout paying tribute to the legacy of this distinguished Ghanaian statesman”, he added.
