The Africa Media Bureau (AMB) organized a high-level breakfast meeting with leading media practitioners on Thursday, November 28, 2024, at the Coconut Grove Regency Hotel in Accra.
The event, themed “Ethical Considerations and Risks in Programming for Social Media: Responsible Election Reporting,” focused on the media’s critical role in ensuring ethical and credible coverage of Ghana’s December 7 elections.
During the meeting, legal expert Ace Anan Ankomah urged political parties and candidates to refrain from sending unsolicited electronic messages, referencing the Electronic Transactions Act.
Pro-Vice Chancellor of Ghana Communication Technology University, Professor Robert Ebo Hinson, called on the media to report responsibly to avoid inflaming tensions as the elections approach.
Dr. Aurelia Ayisi, a lecturer at the University of Ghana, highlighted the growing concerns around misinformation and disinformation, especially during election periods.
