Martin Okyere, a gas station operator has been reportedly shot dead by suspected robbers in the Gomoa East District in the Central region.
The incident occurred around 18:30 GMT on Wednesday when two men arrived at the station in a vehicle.
According to an eyewitness, the suspects fired several rounds of ammunition before targeting Okyere and fleeing with an unspecified amount of cash from his pocket.
An eyewitness who recounted the harrowing experience in an interview with Channel One News on Thursday said “I was in the room with my wife, and she shouted that the gasman was shouting. She said maybe something had happened. So I quickly rushed out, and when I got there, I saw the man on the floor, bleeding.
“I didn’t know what was wrong with him, so I tried approaching him. I saw one of the men in front of the man’s house, and the person just removed a gun. I tried pulling the man from the floor, and he just shot the gun. I bent and ran with the man’s daughter. When I got there too, I saw that the other man was removing something from his pocket. I initially thought he was helping the man.
“This is the first time that it has happened. I rushed to town, and when I got back, I was told he had been taken to the hospital. The information I got from the hospital is that he’s dead. He is called Quarshie, but we all call him brother.”
