The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr George Akuffo Dampare, has assured Ghanaians of the police’s unwavering commitment to maintaining peace, security, and order during the upcoming 2024 general elections.

Speaking at the Peace Pact signing ceremony on Thursday, November 28, 2024, the IGP emphasised the critical role of law enforcement in safeguarding the country’s stability throughout the electoral process and beyond.

“I want to, on behalf of the National Election Security Taskforce, to give you this pledge, we are committed to ensuring our constitutional mandate of ensuring that there is peace, security, law and order for the rest of the period of the election, the post-election period and beyond. So, our beloved country, which is the only one that we have, the one that we can come to without a visa, will continue to be at peace with itself because there is no place like home.

“With this commitment, we want to let you know that we will not allow ourselves to be the source of any disturbances that will corrupt the peace that we cherish so much,” he stated.

The IGP highlighted the collective responsibility of all stakeholders in preserving the nation’s stability.

He urged political leaders, civil society, and citizens to avoid actions that could incite violence or unrest, noting that Ghana’s legacy of peace must be protected for future generations.

“We also urge all the stakeholders to play their part so that they are also not the source or allow themselves to be the source of anything that will disturb the peace of this country because we are holding the country in trust for the next generation as our forbearers held in trust and their depart, they left it in our hands to keep the same in peace for it to be handed over to the next generation. We cannot disappoint them. So, with this pledge that we made, are not just mere words. It has been very international and purposeful,” he stated.
