The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Sunyani East is optimistic about winning the upcoming December elections, pointing to their strong track record and policy framework as key drivers of their confidence.

Speaking on Channel One TV‘s Community Forum, Morris Kwame Mesiku, the Elections Director of the NPP in Sunyani East, highlighted the contributions of the party and its longstanding Member of Parliament, Kwasi Ameyaw-Cherimeh.

He emphasised that the NPP’s accomplishments extend beyond flagship initiatives like Free Senior High School (Free SHS).

He noted significant investments in educational infrastructure, including expansions at Sunyani Secondary School, improvements at the Methodist Vocational Institute, and upgrades at Sunyani Technical University.

“Kwasi Ameyaw-Cherimeh has been a member of parliament for 16 years. Over here, we have 121 communities. If you take out the major ones. In all these other communities, the MP has touched base. He has done something in there. The NPP reform goals go beyond the free SHS. If you come to Sunyani Secondary, there is a massive infrastructure to deal with the enrolment. There are some developments at the Methodist Vocational Institute, and Sunyani Technical University among others, which are transforming our education.

“…Every technical university in Ghana, this government has touched and transformed it and that is what we are seeking to do. So, this election is about records and policies, and we are winning because clearly if you look at all the candidates, it is only Dr Mahamudu Bawumia who has audibly and clearly stated his policy framework for this country,” he stated.

Sunyani East is regarded as a stronghold for the New Patriotic Party (NPP). In the 2020 general elections, the party secured significant support in both the parliamentary and presidential races.

For the parliamentary contest, Kwasi Ameyaw-Cherimeh of the NPP received 49,005 votes, while Allan McBright Sekyere of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) garnered 28,933 votes.

In the presidential race, President Nana Akufo-Addo earned 65.08% of the votes, with former President John Dramani Mahama polling 34.01%.
