Residents of the Sunyani East Constituency have expressed disappointment with the Akufo-Addo administration, citing unmet expectations and worsening economic conditions as reasons for their disillusionment.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s Community Forum, some of the residents in the constituency shared their concerns and highlighted how their daily lives have been impacted by current government policies.

Stephen Kwadwo Yeboah, a teacher in the constituency, did not hold back in expressing his dissatisfaction.

He criticised the government for failing to deliver on promises and accused it of misleading the electorate.

“What we expected of the Akufo-Addo government to do together with the goodwill we had for him, he has really disappointed us. What we were made to believe, for example, they told us John Mahama was performing so poorly and they were coming to do magic to bring the economy back on track. In fact, it is just like a lover deceiving you. This is because the expectation does not match what we are seeing and it is very disappointing,” he stated.

Emmanuel Yeboah, a mobile money operator, shared how the controversial Electronic Levy (E-levy) has affected his business.

Emmanuel noted that his voting decisions in the next election would be influenced by policies like the E-levy.

“With the coming of the E-levy, the business dwindled a bit. Because of the levy, the customers now complain a lot of the time and as a result, they prefer to withdrawals but not sending,” he stated.

He continued: “I will vote in this election and the E-levy, for example, will be one of the policies I will look at to cast my vote. I have listened to all of their manifestoes and they all claim they will be reducing some of the taxes. So, I will look at that, particularly, to vote.”

Another resident, Clement Oppong, emphasised the economic struggles faced by the average Ghanaian, stating that he would base his voting decision on a comparative analysis of the current economic situation and that of four years ago.

“I will look at my current situation and cast my vote. I will do a comparison analysis on the prices of goods and compare to four years ago. Secondly, people are complaining about the current state of the economy. So, if I say I will not vote, they may give me the same leader who is going to increase prices for me,” he stated.

A transport operator, Abdulai Musah, also known as Confidence, stated that even though President Akufo-Addo had good policies for the country, he was at a point in time, rushing with their implementation.

“The policies Nana Addo brought when he was seeking to be president were good and they would have helped the country, but I think that at a point he was in a rush to implement them,” he stated.
