Ignite Media Group (IMG), the parent company of Metro TV, has condemned the invasion of the television station’s premises by armed police officers and a court bailiff.

In a statement released on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, the media group expressed its concern over the incident, describing it as a serious threat to press freedom and the safety of media practitioners in Ghana.

The incident took place at around 9:30 a.m. at IMG’s North Ridge offices in Accra, during a live broadcast of the Good Morning Ghana programme.

In a statement, IMG revealed that this was not George Addo’s first controversial attempt to execute a court judgment. Last year, he allegedly led masked police officers in an effort to seize the vehicle of Good Morning Ghana host, Dr. Randy Abbey, an attempt that failed after Dr. Abbey resisted.

The latest incident caused significant fear and panic among Metro TV staff and security personnel. Excessive force was reportedly used during the invasion, leaving a private security officer with a head injury.

Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, personally intervened to address the situation. He dispatched a team of officers to restore order and directed the auctioneer, bailiff, and armed officers to leave the premises. The IGP assured IMG of a thorough investigation and pledged to enhance security measures at their offices.

IMG condemned the intimidation and disruption, emphasizing the need for lawful and respectful execution of court orders. The media organization called for accountability to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
