The University of Ghana Medical Centre Ltd (UGMC), in partnership with medical equipment supply company, Flokefama Company Limited have installed a state-of-the-art Integrated M680 Immunochemistry Analyser.
This advanced equipment, worth over $100,000, is the first of its kind in West Africa and only the third in Africa, marking a significant milestone in the region’s medical advancements.
The Integrated M680 Immunochemistry Analyser is a sophisticated laboratory device that combines chemistry and immunoassay testing into one platform. It is designed to streamline diagnostics and improve patient care by addressing long-standing challenges in laboratory investigations.
Emmanuel Kenny, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Flokefama, touted the analyser’s exceptional functionality, reliability, precision, and faster turnaround time.
“The Integrated M680 Immunochemistry Analyzer offers one of the highest throughputs on the market, capable of performing 600 chemistry tests and 240 immunoassays per hour,” he noted.
Kenny further emphasised that this collaboration aims to address delays in diagnostic services and promote quality healthcare.
Dr Kwame Anim-Boamah, CEO of UGMC, reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to world-class patient care, training, and research.
“The installation of this modern lab equipment, along with partnerships like the one with Flokefama Ltd, is part of our strategy to realize our vision,” he stated.
Pascal Hodogbe, Head of Laboratory Services at UGMC, highlighted the transformative potential of the analyser, stating that it was crucial for diagnosing a wide range of conditions, including thyroid disorders, infectious diseases, fertility issues, tumors, and bone diseases, adding that it played a key role in identifying renal, liver, and autoimmune diseases.
Beyond diagnostics, he said that the equipment would revolutionise research, particularly in studying disease mechanisms and drug efficacy.
“With this equipment in place, UGMC lab is positioned to reduce the frequency of patients moving from one hospital to another for multiple tests prescribed by their doctors. UGMC will also be able to provide lab services to other health facilities within its catchment area, improving healthcare delivery for patients in Ghana and beyond,” Hodogbe added.
