The General Manager of VIP Jeoun Transport Limited, Adakabre Frimpong Manso, has assured customers of the company’s readiness and availability of buses to facilitate travel to distant constituencies during the 2024 elections.
Speaking in an interview with Channel One News, Adakabre Frimpong stated that the company has sufficient vehicles to transport voters needing to travel to their constituencies to cast their ballots.
However, he raised concerns about congestion on the highways, which is affecting the smooth movement of buses. He attributed this congestion to the single-carriage design and the deteriorating condition of certain roads.
Adakabre acknowledged government efforts to construct bypasses at key points along the Accra-Kumasi road but noted that these bypasses are still incomplete. He explained that this has significantly increased travel times, citing the Accra-Kumasi route, which used to take 5 hours but now requires 8 hours.
He also emphasized the toll this takes on drivers, who spend extended hours behind the wheel, passengers who endure longer journeys, and the increased fuel consumption resulting from these delays.
“We spend more time at the Accra-Nsawam junction. We also spend more time from Linda Dor, New Nsutam-Osinor Bay and also Anyinam.
“The road which is deteriorating is a single carriageway with more vehicles on the highway. We know and have taken notice of the government’s intention to construct by-passes in the Osinor, Anyinam and Konongo areas but these bypasses have not been ready yet. We are experiencing higher numbers on such stretch which is deteriorating while the by-passes have not been done so far”.
