The National Election Security Taskforce has launched a financially rewarding informant system aimed at ensuring a secure environment for the 2024 general elections.
Under the initiative, individuals are encouraged to provide the police or other security agencies with information about potential security threats.
Reports can be made in person or through a toll-free hotline at 0800-311-311. Informants whose tips lead to actionable outcomes will receive rewards ranging from ₵1,000 to ₵20,000.
Inspector General of Police and head of the National Election Security Taskforce, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, announced the initiative during a meeting with the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG).
Dr. Dampare emphasized that the scheme is part of broader measures to foster collaboration between the public and security agencies in maintaining peace and order during the elections.
“This is the Informant Reward System we are introducing and the figure associated with it is between the average of GHC 1000 and GHC 20,000.
“You bring the information, we operationalise it, and when the results are good and with the weight of the information, we put it in some sort of a weighing scale to tell how much between GHC1000 and GHC 20,000 you deserve. You tell us how you want to get it then we send it to you.
“Those that will find it difficult to do the one-on-one, for the first time in the history of election management we have introduced a toll-free number for anybody who wants to share information with us”, he stated
