The Bono Regional Director of the Electoral Commission (EC), Guggisberg Samuel Asirifi-Young has indicated that the region is ready for the December elections after the it received all ballot papers for both Parliamentary and Presidential elections in December.

The exercise to crosscheck the details of the ballot papers travelled into the night and lasted 15 hours.

“Bono region is duly ready for the smooth supervision of the election as it is. In the sense that for every election to take place smoothly, two things are very vital, training of all the officials who are to man the very polling stations and also all the materials that are needed for the elections.”

“With regards to the officials, the training sections are ongoing in the various districts, training the presiding officers, verification officers, name reference list officers and ballot issuers. We will bring the curtains down in a few days on the training process.

“Once our officials are trained, it will mean we have finished one leg of the election process. As we speak, we’ve taken delivery of all the parliamentary and presidential ballot papers where we have done thorough checks in the presence of all the political parties,” he stated.

Asirifi-Young urged the various political parties to make good use of the structures put in place to address issues relating to the elections rather than rushing to the media to create tension.

“We have been advising and telling the political parties that, there are avenues where they can seek redress anytime they have a challenge concerning any issue. We will advise that if they have any issue they should not rush to the press to put out such information. They have to come to the appropriate quarters, see me as the regional director and if it is beyond me I will forward the matter to management.”

“In addition to this we have RIPAC meetings that is Regional Inter-Party Advisory Committee, with all the political parties and that is replicated at the district level so with all these structures, I believe the ideal thing to do where a political party has a grievance is to contact the EC offices for redress.

“If it is beyond the district officers, they will relay the information to the regional for resolution and if it is beyond me as well, I will forward it to the national. I will advise that there is no point in rushing to the press to give information, perhaps the ideal thing to do is to contact the structures that have been put in place,” he stated.
