Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Dr Mahamudu Bawumia says his flat rate tax policy will benefit businesses like spare parts dealers at Abossey Okai.
According to him, this policy will ensure price stability and certainty, helping these businesses in their operations. He made these remarks during a tour of three constituencies in the Greater Accra and Eastern Regions.
The tour is part of Dr Bawumia’s plans to visit key constituencies ahead of the 2024 elections.
He began with a visit to the Ayawaso Central constituency, a key swing constituency in the Greater Accra Region. This constituency is represented by Interior Minister, Henry Quartey.
Dr Bawumia engaged with traders at the Mallam Atta Market, urging them to support his bid for the presidency.
Next, he visited the Hebron Prayer Center, located in Medie, a town bordering Amasaman in the Greater Accra Region and Nsawam in the Eastern Region. There, he joined worshippers in their prayers and called on them to support him through prayer.
The day’s activities concluded with a visit to Abossey Okai, a critical voting area for the NPP in Ablekuma Central. Dr Bawumia encouraged voters to remain loyal to the NPP, emphasizing that policies have been implemented to improve the livelihoods of spare parts dealers.
“Those here in Abossey Okine have major issues with import duties. I am bringing a new import duty regime called the Flat Rate Import Regime. This means when importing a 40-foot container worth of spare parts and the import duty is already known as GHC 20,000, that is the exact amount you will pay.
“Every item will have its flat rate which will effectively help businesses. We are bringing in the Flat Rate System for companies. I know that a lot of companies are at loggerheads with GRA. My government will give tax amnesty to all businesses and individuals in Ghana. Everybody will start with a zero rate,” he stated.
