The Ghana Police Service has warned of a strict zero tolerance for weapons at polling stations during the December polls.
The service noted that patrol teams will be on standby to respond swiftly to any emergencies that may arise.
Speaking at an election security symposium held at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC), on Tuesday, November 26, on the theme, Protecting the Ballot: Deeping Democracy, the Director of Operations at the Police Headquarters, ACP Al-Meyao Abass Kwarasey, assured the public that this measure is aimed at eliminating any sense of intimidation among voters.
“Our strategy is in four tiers. The first-tier approach at the polling station is zero tolerance for weapons. Those who will be deployed at the polling station are not expected to carry weapons.
“If principals are coming to the polling grounds, they are advised to put the weapons in the police armoury. This is just to make sure that there is a level playing ground for all. Nobody should feel intimidated as far as casting his or her vote is concerned,” he stated.
