The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Gomoa East has accused the Electoral Commission (EC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of conspiring to rig the upcoming elections.
According to the NDC, it has intercepted an audio recording that allegedly captures the voice of Kojo Asemanyi, the former Member of Parliament and NPP parliamentary candidate, urging three EC officials to manipulate the results in his favour.
In the recording purported to be that of Kojo Asemanyi, is heard offering an amount of GHS60,000 each to the EC officials to execute the alleged rigging agenda.
The NDC claims that part of the payment has already been made and is calling for the immediate removal of the implicated EC officers.
Francis Aidoo Deputy Constituency Secretary of Gomoa East said in an interview with Channel One News that “Kojo Asemanyi in an attempt to woo the three men who are the EC Officials told them that it was with the support of Dr Bossman Asare, the Deputy EC boss that they have been retained here but not their competencies. He even said that some 65 presiding officers have been recruited and have been posted to Gomoa East to assist the returning officer in executing the agenda of rigging the elections in favour of Dr Bawumia and himself.
“Part of the audio also spoke about how they plan to denigrate incumbent MP Desmond Paitoo ahead of the election. He even went further to criticise his party and that of President Akufo-Addo. He also said that the Deputy EC boss Bossman Asare is aware of the move and is in support of it. As a party, we are calling for the immediate removal of these officers and an investigation into the matter. We are also calling on the National leadership of the NDC to make a strong case against Dr Bossman Asare and the EC and also withdraw all the 65 officials posted to this area to invigilate the elections.”
Kojo Asemanyi, however, denies the allegations, describing the audio as AI-generated and accusing the NDC of fabricating the claims to salvage the reputation of the incumbent MP, whose poor performance he argues is costing the party the election.
“This is a desperate attempt by party executives of the NDC in Gomoa and the sitting Member of Parliament Desmond Degraft Paitoo. Everything indicates that we are winning the elections . Twelve days to elections and you go around spewing lies. He knows it’s over for him.
This is not me in the audio. If he doesn’t take care I will take legal action against him. We will take a forensic look at it. My concentration is on winning the December 7 elections. He is a failed Member of Parliament and this will not save him from losing the General election. The audio is AI generated it is not me,” Kojo Asemanyi said.
