Residents of Subin in the Ashanti region have expressed their unwavering support for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), citing the government’s Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy as the primary reason for their loyalty.
This policy, they believe, has brought relief to many families in the constituency by easing the financial burden associated with education.
Speaking on the Community Forum on Channel One TV on Tuesday, November 26, some residents shared their reasons for endorsing the NPP in the upcoming elections.
Melody Opoku, a resident, acknowledged the rising cost of goods and the economic difficulties that many Ghanaians currently face.
However, she emphasised that the Free SHS programme has positively impacted her family, making it a decisive factor in her voting decision.
“Prices are increasing everyday and things are very hard. They always say that the price increases are due to the dollar.
“My first factor for voting however will be the Free SHS because my siblings are now in the tertiary all thanks to the Free SHS. NDC cannot better it, it is only the NPP that can make it better.”
Another resident, Esther Nyamkye, shared a similar perspective. For her, the Free SHS programme has been a lifeline, allowing her to provide her children with an education she could not have afforded otherwise.
“Looking at the state of my finances, I would not have been able to send my child to secondary school but due to the Free SHS, my children are in the secondary school and so the Free SHS will influence who I will vote for.
“People are always complaining about the dollar but when it comes to education, the government is helping a lot. The government is doing really well for our children in school.”
Adusei Job, a mechanic at the Asafo Fitting Shop also not only praised the Free SHS policy but also the improvements made to Ghana’s health insurance system under the NPP administration. Adusei stated that these policies would influence his decision at the ballot box.
“I am going to consider the policies of the various political parties before voting. I voted for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the last election, and I will vote for them again because they have improved health insurance and the Free SHS policy and that is the reason I am going to vote for the NPP.”
