The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah has accused President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of orchestrating a scheme that excluded Ashantis from becoming flagbearers of the party.
Addressing party members today at Apatrapa in the Kwadaso Constituency as part of his Ashanti Regional retail campaign, Asiedu Nketiah indicated that the alleged move is and was intended to position he, Akufo-Addo, to manipulate the party for his personal gains.
“About five Ashantis were vying for the flagbearer position; Alan Kyerematen, Addai Nimoh, Kwabena Agyepong, and Akoto Afriyie. However, through his manipulation, President Akufo-Addo ensured they were all eliminated from the race. No Ashanti became the flagbearer.
“Instead, Mahamudu Bawumia emerged as the flagbearer. Bawumia, who was never originally part of the party, now carries out Akufo-Addo’s bidding,” he stated.
