President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has described former President John Dramani Mahama as a failed leader, asserting that Mahama is the only Ghanaian president who performed poorly and was denied a second term in office.

Speaking at the commissioning of the Sekyere Afram Plains District Hospital in Drobonso on Monday, November 25, Akufo-Addo claimed that while all past presidents are remembered for their significant contributions, Mahama’s legacy is defined by “dumsor” (persistent power outages).

The President criticised the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) proposed “24-hour economy,” questioning its feasibility under Mahama’s leadership.

Highlighting his administration’s achievements, Akufo-Addo praised the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy, calling it a transformative initiative in Ghana’s education sector. He noted that the policy has enabled many students who previously lacked access to secondary education to enrol and succeed.

The President urged Ghanaians to vote for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the upcoming elections, describing him as the best candidate to continue his government’s legacy.

“We are going to vote on two people in the coming polls. Among the two, we know one already, he’s been president before. He is the only president that wasn’t awarded a second term. Rawlings who happens to be the first president of the 4th republic was given the nod to be president for a second term, my senior John Agyekum was also a two-time president, and I am also a two-time president. Only one person wasn’t given the chance to be a two-time president because we weren’t impressed with his first-term performance.

“Rawlings is known for the creation of District Assembly, Kufour is known for National Health Insurance, Nana Addo is known for Free SHS, John Dramani Mahama is only known for ‘Dumsor’. He claims to be bringing a 24-hour Economy, meanwhile, lights couldn’t stay on for 12 hours when he was in power, how then can he initiate a 24-hour economy?

“I am pleading with Ghanaians not to allow themselves to be deceived. We need someone who will continue what we have started and do more.

“My vice president, Mahamudu Bawumia was the brain behind Agenda 111”, he stated.
