The Member of Parliament (MP) for Awutu Senya West, Gizella Tetteh-Agbotui has expressed worry over the possible change of venue for the collation centre for the 2024 elections.
The Awutu Senya West constituency in eight previous elections has used the Awutu Bereku Durbar grounds as its collation centre, but the MP is worried that the Police have proposed the Awutu Winton Senior High School as the new coalition.
The MP described the move as unfortunate and a recipe to disrupt the peace of the people of Awutu Senya West.
Addressing leadership of the local council of churches in Bawjiase, Tetteh-Agbotui urged constituents not to hesitate to report anything suspicious to the police for onward action.
“We have done collation in the Awutu Durbar grounds for almost eight years. Just last week we were invited by the Police to the Regional Command and were told that the IGP is proposing a new venue, and this is the Awutu Bereku Durbar ground. My problem is why is the IGP proposing that venue since we all agreed to the Durbar grounds? It is not good for the peace we are enjoying now”.
“In the last elections, there were some vigilante groups in Obrakyere to steal the ballot box, but one of them was arrested and beaten by the angry mob. I want to urge you all to report any suspicious act to the police for onward action,” she said.
