Some residents of Osu in the Klottey Korle constituency have raised concerns over the rising cost of living, which they say has placed financial pressure on their families and individuals.

In a discussion with Philip Nii Lartey on the Community Forum on Channel One TV on Monday, November 25, Marcus, an indigene and employee at Compu Ghana, said residents of the constituency are facing severe economic hardships.

Reflecting on his daily expenses, Marcus noted a sharp increase in the cost of food and other essentials, a situation that he believes will influence his decision in the upcoming December 7 general elections.

Despite his grievances about rising costs, Marcus acknowledged that Osu is relatively well-equipped with healthcare facilities.

However, he pointed out that the cost of medication remains a barrier for many residents.

“Cost of living has been higher. Before 2016, I could spend like GH¢20 a day but now I spend between GH¢30 and GH¢50 a day. Things, especially food is very expensive over here.

“The health situation here is quite okay. Even with that, we find it difficult to afford drugs because the health insurance doesn’t work.”

Naa Kwarley, a bread vendor near the popular Osu Night Market, also expressed her dissatisfaction with the rising prices of her goods.

According to her, the escalating cost of bread and eggs has not only increased her operational costs but also affected her sales, as customers struggle to keep up with the rising prices.

Naa Kwarley also criticised the government for the challenges she has faced in supporting her son, who attends Accra Academy under the Free Senior High School programme.

“The price of bread has gone high, and the price of eggs too has gone high, and that has affected our sales.

“My son, who is also a student at the Accra Academy, was asked to buy his own food and there are a lot of things we are still made to pay yet the government tells us that it is implementing Free SHS.”
