As December 7 draws near, the call for peace before, during, and after the elections continues to gain momentum. In the Chereponi constituency of the North East Region, stakeholders are committed to setting an example for the rest of the country.

For political parties in the constituency, prioritising development is key. They recognise that the lack of peace has significantly hindered progress in the district.

This shared sentiment was evident during a joint inter-party peace walk held in the constituency.

The call for peace before, during, and after the December 7 elections has become more pressing. Chereponi, one of the most deprived districts in the country, has long been associated with insecurity.

Funds that could have been allocated to developmental projects are often diverted to address security issues.

Residents now see peace as a priority and are urging everyone to unite for the common good. They believe that peace is the foundation for development.

Political parties and candidates contesting this year’s elections have reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring peace throughout the electoral process. This commitment was demonstrated during a joint health walk organised by stakeholders to stress the importance of peace.

Here are some comments from political party supporters pledging their commitment to peace.

“Before any community or district develops, there is the need for peace. Without peace, no business activity can move on. I assure you that we in the NDC preach peace wherever we go. Without peace, even if our candidate wins the elections, it will be very difficult for the community to move forward. We want to assure you that we stand for peace before, during and after the elections,” stated Umaru Zakaria, the Constituency Vice Chairman of the NDC

The District Chief Executive for Chereponi, Hajia Moda Zuwera Nashiru, commended the political parties for their show of unity and emphasised the critical role peace plays in improving the lives and well-being of Chereponi residents.

With only about ten days until the December 7 elections, the message of peace resonates strongly and must not be taken lightly.

Many families are already grappling with economic hardships, and any form of disturbance would only worsen their plight.

Peace is the way forward. December 7 will come and go, but our relationship will remain. Politicians may have the means to leave, but for most citizens, this is home—we have nowhere else to go.
