Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, the Minister of Education, has announced that Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate, will prioritise education and training programmes that align with the job market if elected in the upcoming December elections.
Speaking at an engagement in Accra, Adutwum emphasised the importance of equipping the youth with skills that meet the demands of the modern workforce.
“Dr Bawumia is committed to transforming our education system to ensure that it produces graduates who are ready for the job market. This means focusing on technical and vocational education and training (TVET) as well as science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) programmes,” Adutwum stated.
He highlighted the need for a curriculum that is responsive to the evolving needs of industries and businesses, ensuring that students are not only academically proficient but also possess practical skills that enhance their employability.
Adutwum also mentioned plans to strengthen partnerships between educational institutions and the private sector to create internship and apprenticeship opportunities for students.
“By aligning education with the job market, we can reduce unemployment and drive economic growth. Dr. Bawumia’s vision is to create a workforce that is competitive on a global scale and capable of driving innovation and development in Ghana,” Adutwum added.
