The acting Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), David Boadi Asamoah, has assured the public that the anticipated shutdown of three power plants will not occur.

This follows the Independent Power Producers (IPP) warning that three critical power plants face an imminent shutdown due to accumulating unpaid debts.

Asamoah emphasised in an interview on JoyNews on Saturday that the company has implemented measures to manage the situation effectively.

He highlighted the importance of a structured payment schedule in maintaining the stability of the power supply.

Asamoah explained that the payment schedule was originally set to be monthly, but he opted to implement a weekly schedule during his tenure.

By closely monitoring earnings and ensuring timely payments to IPPs, he said ECG would be able to avert the potential shutdown and continue providing reliable electricity to consumers.

“It will not happen… I realised that a weekly schedule would have a more positive impact, and it allowed us to manage the power fall and meet the necessary payments.

“By tracking earnings and allocating the correct amounts, we could ensure payments to our Independent Power Producers (IPPs),” Asamoah stated.
