A blasting operation conducted by Nag Fairmount Constructions Limited, the company handling the Kasoa-Winneba road expansion project, has caused significant damage to properties in Dabenyin, located in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region.
The blasting, carried out on Monday, led to rock particles of various sizes flying onto nearby residential buildings, leaving behind extensive damage.
Affected structures include a fully completed 16-bedroom apartment and a two-bedroom apartment that is still under construction.
While no casualties were reported, unlike the fatal Buduburam incident in October, the destruction has left affected residents deeply concerned.
Homeowners are frustrated with what they perceive as a lack of urgency from authorities and the construction company in addressing the aftermath.
Kwadwo Amoah, a resident whose property was heavily impacted, expressed his frustration: “We have leaks in the roofs of all six rooms, and the house at the other side with five rooms has damaged roofing sheets. I lodged a complaint at Dominase Police Station. When we got there, they told me to inform NADMO due to the intensity of the matter.
“I called the person who was supposed to come and inspect, but he never came. I took a GH¢25,000 loan to roof the building. I don’t want them to come, remove some, and replace them. They should bring someone to change the entire roofing so we all have peace.”
Another resident, Albert Appiah, reported that although he informed the company about his damaged roof, he has yet to receive a response.
Similarly, Issah Rahman shared a harrowing experience where a rock pierced through his roof and landed in his bedroom, drawing his wife’s attention to the damage.
The National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) in Gomoa East had completed its assessment of the incident when this report was filed.
In an off-camera statement to Channel One News, NADMO Director Robert Nana Hackman assured residents that compensation for affected property owners would soon be addressed.
Hackman also noted that medical expenses for victims of the Buduburam blast in October have been fully covered. However, property owners impacted by that earlier incident are still awaiting compensation.
