Traders at the Gomoa Dominase market in the Central Region have raised concerns about the lack of infrastructure and the increasing cost of doing business.

The traders are calling for urgent action to address infrastructure deficits, provide market sheds, and improve access roads to ensure the market becomes a thriving hub for economic activity in the region.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s Community Forum on Friday, November 22, they called on authorities to address these challenges to improve their livelihoods and the local economy.

Dorothy Ansah, a trader at the market, highlighted the dire need for proper facilities and improved infrastructure in the area.

“The government should at least help us with a well-structured place for doing business and also a good place of convenience. Additionally, the school in this area lacks infrastructure, the government must help us revive it. Our roads to the markets are also very bad. My vote this year will be based on these things,” she stated.

Vivian Antwi, another trader selling tomatoes, potatoes, and pepper, shared her frustrations about the lack of basic amenities at the market.

“As you can see, I am selling tomatoes, potatoes and pepper. You have come to meet us here because there is no proper shed for us. When a customer comes around, you will see that we are all calling on this same person to buy from us. Beyond that, if the rain comes now it will beat all of us. It’s been three years since they moved the market to this place but we don’t see anything that shows that the market moving,” she stated.

She continued: “We pay tolls to the assembly every day but they seem not to be using it for anything for our benefit. At least if we had sheds you would then know that this is a proper market centre,”

The traders also expressed scepticism about political promises as elections approach.

Hagar, another trader, criticised politicians for failing to deliver on their commitments.

“I have a major concern that I will use this platform to address. Our politicians always find a way to even come to the very remote villages because they are campaigning. They try to even communicate using the local dialect to sell their policies and ideas.

“But when they win power, they use the English language to confuse us and refuse to do the things they promised us.

“So, I am pleading, if they want to be the leaders of this country, they should use the same language they used to promise us to govern so that we can all understand the policies they are implementing,” she stated.
