President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has inaugurated a 20-hectare Oil and Gas Services Terminal at the Takoradi Habour to serve Ghana’s Offshore Petroleum industry and the rest of West Africa.
The Terminal has a quay wall of 550 meters and a draft of 10 meters deep and comes with 200,000m serviced land area for siting of oilfield operators, logistics service providers, operational offices, workshops and storage facilities, among others.
Speaking at the inauguration of the 20-hectare Oil and Gas Services Terminal at the Takoradi Habour, on Friday, November 22, the President said, “It (the terminal) positions Ghana as an oil and gas hub and serves as a critical infrastructure in our maritime space.
“Completion of the Terminal is a key milestone and will serve and offer key services, making it competitive in the industry. It will enable efficient transport in the industry and offer specialised services.”
The project aims to establish a world-class shore-based logistics platform within the port, featuring offshore supply vessel (OSV) birthing facilities and serviced waterfront land to support offshore oil and gas exploration and production operations.
Michael A. Luguje- Director General of Ghana Ports and Harbour Authority commended the government and said the investment has made Takoradi Port competitive.
“Takoradi used to be a traditional port. Government investment has helped to make Takoradi Port a multi-purpose port which can compete with Tema and other ports in Africa. This is a one-stop shop service provider for oil and gas. The investment in GPHA has helped to create over 3,000 jobs,” he said.
The Minister of Transport, Kwaku Ofori Asiamah under whose Ministry’s supervision the Takoradi Habour operates indicated that the various expansion works the Tema and Takoradi Habours have undergone strategically in making Ghana’s maritime industry a force in the global maritime space.
The 20-hectare Takoradi Habour Oil and Gas Services terminal was wholly funded by the GPHA.
The scope of work also include:
* Construction of 550m length of Quay Wall with Quay furniture installed
* 10m draught(depth) of dredged berth pockets
* Construction of approximately 1.9km of access road with side/storm drainage
* Installation of utility service ducts
* 20 hectares (200,000m total serviced land area of Storage Yard and Concrete Paved Roads
