The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has called on the Ghana Airport Company Limited (GACL) to take decisive action against individuals encroaching on airport lands to allow for the expansion of the runway at Prempeh I International Airport.
Speaking during a meeting with officials, the Asantehene stressed that the land was allocated specifically for airport operations, and any encroachments disrupting these activities must be addressed promptly.
He further tasked the Ministry of Transport and the GACL to ensure that the ongoing runway expansion is completed to accommodate larger aircraft and facilitate international travel.
The Asantehene underscored the strategic importance of the airport’s upgrade in boosting economic growth and enhancing the region’s connectivity to global destinations.
“The land was given to the airport company. Nobody has the right to occupy that land. Extend the runway to make way for bigger planes. If I don’t inform these people, I won’t get anyone to do it for me”
Transport Minister, Kwaku Ofori Asiamah, who led the management and board of the Ghana Airport Company Limited to pay a courtesy call on the Asantehene, disclosed steps are underway to address the encroachment of Airport lands.
The Ghana Airport Company Limited also presented two dialysis machines to Otumfuo to support the Heal Komfo Anokye project he is spearheading.
“For our corporate social responsibilities, we bought four dialysis machines and we thought it wise to support the project for the efforts that Otumfuo is putting in. We came here to donate two of the dialysis machines to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and we think it is appropriate to let him know our contribution towards his efforts in reviving Komfo Anokye.
“We have also put in money for the treatment of about 50 people for one month. That is where we are and we think that it will go a long way to help as far as health delivery is concerned”
