The leadership of the security services in the Ashanti Region has expressed disappointment in political parties for failing to attend an inter-security prayer service for a peaceful election.
Despite the absence of political representatives, the security agencies reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring a peaceful electoral process as they gathered to seek divine protection and guidance for their duties.
On Thursday, 21 November 2024, an inter-security prayer service was organised at the Ghana Police Interdenominational Church in Kumasi.
The event, themed; “Free, Fair, and Peaceful Election: Our Responsibility,” brought together numerous security personnel who sought spiritual guidance for their critical roles during the elections.
Despite the solemnity of the occasion, the leadership of the security services expressed their disappointment over the absence of invited political party representatives.
Brigadier General Michael Kwadwo Opoku, General Officer Commanding the Central Command of the Ghana Armed Forces, reminded personnel to prioritise national interests and uphold their allegiance to the state during the electoral process.
“Our allegiance is to the state called Ghana and the constitution, no other person. We respect an authority set over us as we took an oath after our training. You must respect any superior set over you and give him the necessary accord he deserves. The state however is superior and supreme to anything we do in this uniform.
“I will entreat all of you to ensure Ghana becomes the winner in the assignment we are about to undertake. All other ones are added to it. I assure you that we in the military will give the necessary support we need to ensure that Ghana remains Ghana. Please do not take unlawful command from anybody.”
The Ashanti Regional Commander of the Ghana Police Service DCOP Frank Abrokwa, also urged officers to remain professional and avoid disseminating misinformation or disinformation that could undermine the electoral process.
“Let us avoid the practice of being used as a vessel for unverified information. As we go to the ground, before you pass a piece of information on, please ensure that it is the truth. We don’t want the situation where a piece of unverified information with the tendency of causing problems will be attributed to security personnel.”
