Nana Akomea, Vice Chairman of the Bawumia Campaign Team, has praised Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer, for his exceptional leadership qualities and vision.
Acknowledging the current economic difficulties, Akomea asserted that Bawumia’s plans are well-positioned to address the issues facing Ghanaians.
In comparison to former President Mahama, Akomea emphasized Bawumia’s skills and achievements, asserting that his vision for the country is far superior.
Speaking in an interview with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Face to Face on Channel One TV, Akomea called on Ghanaians to rally behind Dr. Bawumia in the December elections, stating that his leadership is the key to solving the nation’s challenges.
“Bawumia has never been president, indeed it’s John Mahama who has been president before. He’s the one we should be asking, what chance did you not get to implement what you are talking about? There are difficulties now, so you are looking for a way out, between Mahama and Bawumia whose vision answers the difficulties that we are in.
“We all agree that there are difficulties, so the voter is going to look at the person who is giving a clear way out of the difficulties. And he’s giving a way that the voter can identify with.”
Nana Akomea stated that the NDC does not possess the necessary solutions to stabilize the cedi and expressed disapproval of Mahama’s suggestion to initiate an economic recovery dialogue within his first 120 days in office.
“What is the NDC offering in terms of managing the cedi as against Bawumia? They don’t even have a good record in terms of what comes out of an economic dialogue. They don’t have a good record of working with consultation. The day they came from Senchi, they threw everything away and went to the International Monetary Fund. You are now coming to the office and you want to do a dialogue before you can draw an economic recovery programme.”
He expressed Bawumia’s commitment to restoring fiscal balance by collaborating with the private sector to implement commercially viable projects.
“What Bawumia is saying is that we will restore fiscal balance. We will take GHS30 billion spending from government expenditure, expenditure that goes to things that the private sector can deliver, which means commercially viable projects. Infrastructural developments that are commercially viable. Put in place a framework that can allow the private sector to deliver those projects. Bawumia is not just saying some platitudes, Mahama said in 2012 and 2013 that he would increase the tax net without showing us how. Bawumia has shown the practical steps.
“Mahama has been president before, and he has four and a half years to show, why was he thrown away? If you actually want change it’s Bawumia. It’s not enough to be in difficulty, who is offering you a way out and that’s where the election will tell.”
