President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has called on all stakeholders and Ghanaians to safeguard the newly commissioned Flower Pot Interchange and ensure it serves its intended purpose.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony in Accra on Tuesday, November 19, President Akufo-Addo emphasised the importance of maintaining the infrastructure to enhance connectivity and improve travel times for commuters as well as be maintained for the long term.
The Flower Pot Interchange, a significant infrastructure project, aims to ease traffic congestion on the North and South corridors of the Tema Motorway.
The project features an 802-meter dual carriageway viaduct with asphaltic concrete surfacing, a 140-meter ramp from Shiashie onto the viaduct towards Airport Hills, and an 80-meter ramp connecting the viaduct to the Motorway towards Tema.
Additionally, the project includes a new road through the old tunnel at East Legon, pedestrian walkways, and road furniture such as streetlights and traffic signals.
President Akufo-Addo urged stakeholders, including local authorities and residents, to take responsibility for the upkeep of the interchange.
The President also highlighted the positive impacts of the interchange on the local economy, noting that improved transportation infrastructure can lead to increased economic activity and development.
He called on the public to support efforts to keep the interchange in good condition and to report any issues promptly to the relevant authorities.
