President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is set to commission the Flower Pot Interchange today, Tuesday, November 19.
The new flyover is expected to ease traffic congestion along the north-south corridor of the Tema Motorway.
This development aims to streamline movement between areas like Cantonments and Burma Camp to East Legon, Spintex, and Tema, significantly enhancing residents’ quality of life.
Key features include an 802-meter dual carriageway viaduct surfaced with asphalt, a 140-meter ramp from Shiashie onto the viaduct towards Airport Hills, and an 80-meter ramp connecting the viaduct to the Motorway towards Tema.
The GHS 677,839,999.5 interchange also incorporates a newly constructed road through the old East Legon tunnel, a 200-meter link from Cantonments via the Giffard Road interchange, a redesigned Flower Pot roundabout, pedestrian walkways along the flyover, and road accessories like streetlights, markings, and traffic signals.
Initiated on March 7, 2017, the project was handled by China Railway No. 5 Engineering Gh. Ltd, with Deoke Consult Ltd as the consultant. It spanned 93 months and was financed by Afrexim Bank and the Government of Ghana.
