In the lead-up to the general elections on December 7, 2024, traders in the Bantama Constituency are voicing their expectations for leaders to present policies that address their pressing concerns.
Speaking on the Community Forum on Channel One TV, several traders emphasised the need for practical and impactful solutions rather than empty promises.
Emmanuel Tebi, a mobile money vendor noted “As we are nearing the election, all the candidates are coming to us with their policies and plans for us. None of them have come to us to ask us, as traders, what our challenges are.
“Now that they are all going about with their promises, I can’t say for sure if they will be able to implement them or not.
“As a mobile money vendor, I work almost every day. I was robbed the last time. So, security issues are one of my greatest concerns. So, if a contestant comes to me and he can present solutions to my challenges, that will push me to vote for him or her,” stated.
He continued: “Before I vote, I will first look at your policy and weigh it to see if it will benefit me as a trader or my relations. If your policy or promise will not help me, I will not even waste my time waking up and going and queuing to vote for you. Because I will not get any benefit from it,” he stated.
Another trader, Akosua Sarpong, raised concerns about the fluctuating prices of goods in the market, drawing comparisons to more stable pricing in neighbouring countries like Côte d’Ivoire.
“We are going to vote regardless, but whoever will win should pay particular attention to the prices of goods. The prices of goods have been stable in places like Côte d’Ivoire for some time now. But when it comes to Ghana, our prices fluctuate almost every time. So the government should address the constant increase of prices,” he stated.
