Independent presidential candidate Nana Kwame Bediako has criticised successive governments for failing to advance Ghana’s development, lamenting the collapse of factories established during Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s era.

Bediako stressed that Ghana’s path to economic freedom lies in robust industrialization, urging a focus on processing the nation’s abundant raw materials into finished products.

This, he argued, would create jobs, boost local economies, and reduce reliance on imports.

His comments came during a campaign stop in Kasoa, a bustling urban area with strategic importance due to its rapid growth, proximity to Accra, and significant voter population.

As part of his 276-Constituency tour, Bediako visited the Kasoa Market, a key trading hub connecting Greater Accra and the Central Region.

Speaking to market women and traders, Bediako accused past and present administrations of neglecting development priorities and allowing the collapse of Nkrumah-era factories, which once symbolized Ghana’s industrial aspirations.

“Kasoa market is supposed to be a major trading hub where people buy wares from to retail elsewhere. I am a young man but don’t wait for me to become an old man, I won’t have much for you. Now I have something for you, and you need to take it. I have come with it and you need to take it. We want to industrialise the market with machines. We want the market to be next to a factory.

“For the machines, our leaders do want us to do it, but when foreigners come in, they invade our forests with machines to exploit our gold. When they come in they do stuff with machines but a when Ghanaian decides to work with machines, he is hindered by the government. They have closed all the factories Kwame Nkrumah established”

He called on the people of Kasoa to vote for change, urging them to reject the dominance of the two main political parties. According to him, Ghana needs a new generation of leaders to steer the nation towards sustainable development and prosperity.

“Come 7th December, this man standing in front of you came with 12 pillars, and I am number 12 on the ballot and I have 12 ministers, and on the 12th month of this year, let’s come together and vote them out.”
