With less than three weeks to the December 7 general elections and a growing call for peace across the country, supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Chereponi Constituency have come together to organize a peace walk.
The initiative aimed to raise awareness about the importance of maintaining peace before, during, and after the elections.
During the walk, on November 16, participants emphasized their shared identity as one people and highlighted the need to prioritize the development of their community over political differences or animosity.
As the December 7 elections approach, calls for peaceful elections are growing louder. Many stakeholders have expressed concerns about the increasing political tensions and fears of potential violence.
The Chereponi District, unfortunately, has a history of unrest. However, this year’s elections present an opportunity for change as residents prepare to choose from three parliamentary candidates: incumbent MP Tahidu Abdul Razak of the NPP, Seidu Alajor of the NDC, and Eugene TK Bashiru of the PNC.
Adding to the significance of the elections, both the NDC and NPP presidential candidates hail from Northern Ghana, strengthening the call for unity and peace in the region. Residents of Chereponi recognize that fostering peace is essential to addressing pressing local issues, including poor infrastructure and underdevelopment. For instance, the district’s roads remain in a deplorable state, hampering access and progress.
To promote peace and unity, supporters of the NDC and NPP united for a peace walk through the constituency. Participants encouraged residents to view one another as family and focus on collective development rather than division.
Some of the participants shared their thoughts with Channel One News, emphasizing the importance of the peace walk.
The constituency secretary of the NPP also urged residents to prioritize unity, stating that peace is critical for progress in the district.
As election day nears, the people of Chereponi are ready to elect a Member of Parliament who will prioritize the development of the constituency, ensuring a brighter future for all.
