The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential Candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has pledged to tackle Ghana’s housing deficit by constructing housing units in every district.

Speaking during a campaign stop at Drobonso in the Sekyere Afram Plains, Dr. Bawumia emphasized that this initiative would not only address the housing shortage but also help reduce unemployment by creating jobs in the construction and related sectors.

“Ghana needs housing, thus I am bringing a Housing Policy where we will construct houses in every district. This will bring in more jobs for masons, carpenters, plumbers, electricians, painters and roofers due to the numerous construction. They will have work to do”

The NPP flagbearer has also reaffirmed his commitment to finding alternative means of generating electricity to reduce living costs.

According to him, the high cost of production currently translates into hikes in electricity prices.

On Saturday, November 16, while campaigning in the Asante Akim South constituency, Dr Bawumia explained that transitioning to solar energy will be his priority.

He has promised, amongst other things, to help Ghanaian businesses grow and reduce the overhead expenditure of households.

“Our electricity bill has increased and I want to introduce a policy to take care of that. The bill has increased because we import oil and gas to produce electricity. I thus want us to use solar power to generate electricity.

“The technology exists already and we have enough sunlight to produce solar power. I will create solar farms in all districts which will reduce the cost of electricity by 50%.”
