The Member of Parliament for Tema East and parliamentary candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Isaac Ashai Odamtten has assured his constituents of his dedication to fostering peace during the 2024 general elections.
Mr Odamtten, who is seeking a second term, made history in 2020 by wresting the Tema East seat from the New Patriotic Party (NPP), ending years of NPP dominance in the constituency.
In an exclusive interview with Channel One News, he underscored the need for free and fair elections, calling on all stakeholders to collaborate in preventing electoral violence.
He made this statement at the Tema Diocesan Young People’s Peace Concert, organised in preparation for the 2024 general elections.
“We ought to cherish the peace we have enjoyed as a people. It is in a peaceful country that our dreams, communal expectations and national agendas can be met. No one should take for granted the peace we are enjoying. I want to underpin the call for peace with the need for free, fair and transparent elections because anytime people are cheated, they feel they have to push back or fight back.
“I want to use this platform to call on all stakeholders and actors in our political architecture to speak peace, promote peace and ensure the will of the people stands.”
