Founder and Senior Partner of AB and David Africa, David Ofosu-Dorte, has urged political parties to prioritise matters relating to corruption and develop effective strategies to combat the menace.
Speaking at an event put together by the Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition (GACC) on Thursday, November 14, he emphasised the need for a robust approach to combating corruption to foster a vigilant and responsible society
He urged political parties to detail specific anti-corruption plans within their governance blueprints, noting that campaign promises often fade once political parties assume office. According to Ofosu-Dorte, the majority of people and entities support anti-corruption efforts to gain or maintain power, not out of sincere commitment.
“What I expect is that the things they say should focus more on corruption and how they plan to fight it. The more they talk about it, the more the public is conscientised. We are very good at talking about corruption when we’re not in power or when we’re criticising those in power. But corruption often occurs when we are in power, and it is crucial that we hear more about how to deal with it in such situations.
“I think we need to pay much more attention to this because it is part of the significant reasons why the economy is in its current state whether we’re talking about inflation or the dollar exchange. We underrate the extent to which corruption contributes to these issues,” he said.
