The Electoral Commission (EC) has clarified that the decision to reprint ballot papers for the Ahafo and Volta regions was prompted solely by reports from its team stationed at the printing house and confirmed by its audit department.
This comes after the commission, on November 15, announced that it has recalled ballot papers printed for the Ahafo and Volta regions due to serialisation errors.
The Commission emphasised that no political party, formally or informally, raised concerns about the serialisation challenges, despite their agents being present throughout the printing process.
Tettey explained that while the overall ballot printing process had gone smoothly, a serialisation issue was identified on some of the ballot papers designated for the two regions.
However, addressing claims that its response was influenced by a report from the NDC, the EC stated: “It is important for the public to know that the challenges with serialisation were brought to the attention of the Commission by the EC team stationed at the said printing house and also confirmed by the Audit Department of the Commission.
“No Political Party, whether formally or informally, notified the Commission about the challenges with serialisation at the Printing House, even though their agents were present throughout the process. The decision to dispose of the printed ballot papers was based solely on reports from the EC Team at the said Printing House and confirmed by its Audit Department.”
