The Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has promised to establish public universities in the newly created regions if the NDC is voted into power.

Addressing chiefs and supporters in Nkatieso, in the Juaboso Constituency of the Western North Region, he underscored the need for unbiased access to higher education, stating that every region in Ghana deserves at least one public university.

He described the plan as a commitment to bridging the educational gap in the country.

“When you look at our manifesto, every region must have a public university. So, during our tenure, the then Brong Ahafo Region didn’t have a public university, the same was the case in the Volta Region. We put up the University of Development Studies (UDS).

“We also put up the University of Allied Sciences in the Volta Region. The University of Environment in the Eastern Region too was put up by the NDC.

“We have divided the regions and we want to put up universities in all the six new regions or campuses of universities.

“To you, our traditional leaders, just as you have earmarked lands in tertiary development in your region when we come, we will be looking forward to that land so we can bring the university here,” he stated.
