Dr. Anthony Nsiah-Asare, Presidential Adviser on Health, has announced a substantial increase in National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) enrolment, which now exceeds 17 million members under the current New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.
According to Dr Nsiah-Asare, this represents an increase from approximately 11 million members in 2017 when the NPP took office.
Speaking on the NPP manifesto on Channel One TV, Dr Nsiah-Asare credited this growth to the government’s commitment to expanding healthcare access and affordability for Ghanaians.
He pointed to several key initiatives that have driven enrolment, notably the introduction of a digital renewal process through *929#, which has simplified membership renewals.
Dr. Nsiah-Asare emphasized that NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is committed to strengthening and expanding these initiatives to further improve healthcare access.
The NHIS, established in 2003, seeks to provide financial risk protection and ensure access to quality healthcare for all Ghanaians.
