The Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) has indicated that it has resolved issues regarding the harassment of traders over taxes.

The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), in its bid to recoup revenue from traders, stationed its officers in traders’ shops to monitor sales and tax invoices. This issue has been a major concern to stakeholders, including Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

Speaking to the media at a stakeholder engagement in Accra, GUTA’s Vice President, Clement Boateng, noted that matters have been settled, and they believe that any political party that wins the 2024 elections will implement a robust tax system to ease pressure on the economy.

“When the VRA officials came to sit at our shops and made us charge VAT under duress, we saw it as uncalled for and that was why we protested. We had a stakeholder engagement with them, and they had to withdraw. We have also petitioned the government to ensure the VAT regime is structured.

“All the flagbearers have promised to structure the VAT regime once they assume power for fair competition in the business industry. This time around we will not sit for them to impose actions on us. The parties have assured us that we have presented to them will be administered,” he stated.
