Brigitte Dzogbenuku, Executive Director of Mentoring Women Ghana, has urged Ghanaian youth and intellectuals to actively engage in questioning policy decisions made by political leaders.

Addressing participants at the Ashesi Citi Dialogue on Thursday, November 14, 2024, under the theme “Scholarship, Leadership, Citizenship, and Nation Building,” Dzogbenuku highlighted the importance of using knowledge and informed perspectives to critically assess and hold policymakers accountable.

She emphasized that citizens should leverage their platforms to demand transparency and accountability from leaders, stressing the role of an informed public in strengthening democracy.

“This opportunity of the constituency of scholarship not only because you know better or you are better informed and can apply but also because you have a certain strength in your constituency and numbers are very important. You must be able to question some of the policy decisions that our leaders come up with.

“You have the information to be able to question it. When somebody comes up with a policy like 1D1F, or 24-hour Economy, really what does it mean and does it translate into people’s lives?

“I get frustrated and I send messages because we are too quiet and those of us who have the opportunities now, the freedom to speak up and question and debunk these policies, we are quiet,” she stated.
