The flagbearer of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Kofi Akpaloo is urging the Electoral Commission (EC) to order a reprint of presidential ballot papers for the 2024 elections.
The flagbearer of LPG insists that the image of the deceased candidate of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), Akua Donkor, will affect the elections.
He contends that should the new flagbearer of GFP have been approved to contest, the EC would have reprinted presidential ballot papers.
Addressing the press, he urged the EC to remove the image of Akua Donkor from the ballot paper for a subsequent reorder of presidential candidates’ position
“With Madam Akua Donkor’s picture on it, it will create a lot of confusion. People are going to vote for Madam Akua Donkor who we are all aware is not alive. How will they do the counting at the end of the day? With the presidential ballot, calculations are done based on the percentage garnered by each candidate. Are the votes for Madam Akua Donkor going to be taken out or counted?
“We do not want confusion at the end of the day. We do not want a situation where a losing candidate rejects the results. Given this, we are asking the Electoral Commission to reprint ballot papers without Madam Akua Donkor’s picture.
“If her running mate had qualified, we would have printed new ballot papers. We wouldn’t have complained about the cost. We are asking the EC to forget about the money involved. Let us do the right thing to promote a peaceful atmosphere in the country,” he stated.
