As the December 2024 elections draw near, residents of Nankese in the Eastern Region are urging the government to address the lack of development in their community.

Speaking on The Constituency on Channel One TV, residents highlighted the absence of infrastructure and job opportunities, which have led many youths to migrate in search of better prospects.

One resident, Ransford Danso, noted that despite the town’s long history, it has fallen behind neighbouring areas like Suhum.

“When we talk about the challenges here in Nankese, we have a lot of them. We have a lot of the youth leaving to go seek greener pastures elsewhere. This town is very old but Suhum is more advanced than us. Whatever you are looking for, you have to go to Suhum, but this town predates that town.

“Our roads are in a very bad state, our police station is also not in a very good state. Beyond that, we don’t have jobs to do. But we vote just like everybody, but we are not getting any benefit from voting,” he stated.

Richmond Adamptey, a driver in the community, expressed frustration over the poor road conditions, which he said impact his livelihood.

“I am a driver and I can say that our roads are very bad. You will work for a week and you will end up spending your profit on maintenance. It is not helping our business. Some of the potholes are as deep as galamsey pits,” he stated.
