Two people have died while others sustained gunshot wounds following a gun battle around Daduri, a suburb of Bawku in the Upper East Region, on November 12, 2024.
Amid the chaos, two houses were set ablaze in the process, increasing the death toll to 25 after an old man was killed at a separate location last week when he missed his way home from the hospital.
The long-standing Bawku conflict reignited following the return of a rival chief, Alhaji Seidu Abagre, who had been in exile.
His return, coupled with recent ambushes targeting travellers, has led to an upsurge in violent clashes, resulting in additional fatalities and numerous injuries in recent days.
Reports indicate that the majority of residents are vacating the area, as about six buses were spotted busing people from the area to Bolgatanga in a military escort.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Stephen Asamoah Boateng, noted that the government is working tirelessly to restore peace in Bawku.
