As the 2024 general elections approach, residents in Kyebi are voicing frustration with Ghana’s two major political parties, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), citing a lack of tangible benefits from years of voting.

Many residents feel neglected by successive governments, with some openly questioning the value of participating in the electoral process.

Bright Martey, a local driver, expressed disappointment over what he describes as uneven development priorities.

“I haven’t benefitted from voting. The government is supposed to help our development but any time they get the resources they push it to one side of the economy and that is not helping us. We feel cheated every time, so I can say that I have not benefitted from voting for any of them. Our community lacks roads. There are some communities when you visit them and return. You might develop waist pain just by travelling to those communities,” he stated.

Others, like Frank Tansi, are considering abstaining from voting altogether.

“I have resolved to not vote again because when I don’t benefit. But even if I decide to vote I may consider voting for Cheddar (Nana Kwame Bediako) because we want a person with vision.”

Salomey Koranteng, a trader in Kyebi, shared similar frustrations.

“We voted in 2020, but we are not getting any benefit. The MP’s performance is not encouraging at all,” she stated.
