Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye, the Member of Parliament for Odododiodoo, has indicated that the Minority caucus in Parliament will not participate in parliamentary sessions until after the upcoming elections, despite the Supreme Court’s recent ruling.

Vanderpuye clarified that the Minority was not involved in the legal suit, which was strictly between the Majority and Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin, and asserted that the Minority is within its rights to decide when to attend or refrain from attending Parliament.

“The elections are important, and we need time to campaign. We will not come to Parliament until after the election. We have a right to take our vacation, so we will,” Mr Vanderpuye said on Channel One TV on Tuesday, November 12.

He added, “They should not attempt to recall us in the next three weeks because we are not coming.”

He further emphasized that the Minority remains indifferent to the Supreme Court’s ruling, adding, “We do not care whatever decision has been taken by the Supreme Court; we have no interest.”

This stance follows Tuesday’s Supreme Court ruling, which overturned Speaker Bagbin’s declaration that four parliamentary seats were vacant.

The decision came in response to a challenge brought by Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, who contested Bagbin’s interpretation of Article 97(1)(g) of the Constitution.

The seven-member panel, led by Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, issued a 5-2 majority decision in favour of Afenyo-Markin, stating that the Speaker’s decision was unconstitutional.

Let’s move beyond impasse and focus on our parliamentary duty – Majority to Minority
