Leader of the New Patriotic Party(NPP) caucus in parliament, Alexander Afenyo Markin has said that Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin should not be too sensitive to divergent and opposing views because he is not a king.

Addressing the press after the supreme court adjourned the hearing and verdict on Bagin’s declaration of four parliamentary seats vacant to Tuesday, November 12, Afenyo-Markin accused the speaker of allowing their colleagues from the other side to sit at his right side which was their side.

According to Afenyo-Markin, Speaker Bagbin has pretended not to see any wrong with members from the National Democratic Congress caucus occupying the majority seats in the house.

Afenyo-Markin asserts that the Speaker has ‘failed our democracy’ by refusing to address NDC’s conduct.

“The clerk of parliament made sure that he had arranged our seats at the right of Mr Speaker and placed our name tags there. The NDC came to remove them. Mr. Speaker was aware of this. He watched and continued with the proceedings, where I think Mr. Speaker failed the nation and failed our democracy.”

“I will be the last person to disrespect Mr. Speaker but Mr. Speaker should not think that he is a king, he is an emperor, he is not an emperor. He is a Democrat therefore he shouldn’t be too sensitive to divergent views and opposing views. What he is doing is wrong,” he said.
