The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has likened himself to a ‘retired general’ who has been brought back to lead Ghana through its current economic and social challenges.
Speaking to members of the clergy in the Ashanti Region on Monday, November 11, Mahama appealed for support and prayers as he outlined his vision for a revival amid the nation’s difficulties.
Reflecting on the state of the country, Mahama expressed deep concern about Ghana’s struggling economy and mounting debt.
The former president emphasised that the road to recovery would require concerted effort and commitment, and urged the clergy and all Ghanaians to offer their prayers for national healing and progress.
“When you take a critical look at where we are as a country, and our economy, you will conclude that things are not going well. Especially in our economy, people are struggling and we are in heavy debt. In all this, we have to thank God that we are still alive. As the adage goes, once there is a will, there is a way. So, your prayers will be required for us to repair this crisis in this country.
“If you take the military, when the war gets tough, sometimes retired generals are brought back to come and lead the battle. So, consider me as one of the retired generals who is brought back to lead the battle. So, I will perform my responsibilities to bring the country back on track,” he stated.
